Day Trips

Lucerne is located in a wonderful area in central switzerland. There are plenty of beautiful spots to see. Some suggestions:

Pilatus - 360° Switzerland on Lucerne's doorstep
Discover the fascination of Lucerne's very own mountain by taking a "Silver Round-trip" on the Pilatus-Bahnen and Zentralbahn, meaning a ride on the panorama gondola and cable car from Kriens to Pilatus Kulm, breathtaking panoramic views of the lakes of Central Switzerland and the Alps, the culinary delights to be had in the cosy restaurants on Pilatus Kulm. And then the icing on the cake: a spectacular ride on the world’s steepest cog railway back down to Alpnachstad, where you can start your homeward journey on the Zentralbahn – perhaps back to Lucerne. (May - October). www.pilatus.ch

Rigi - A Paradise to discover and relax
Mt. Rigi is a great place for fun and recreation right in the very heart of Switzerland. It is one of Switzerland's most favourite excursion destinations with a breathtaking panoramic view of the Alps and offers 100 kilometres of hiking and nordic walking paths, covered picnic areas, playgrounds for children, skiing and tobogganing, nostalgic steam trains and a great variety of events and adventures.attraktiv. www.rigi.ch

Engelberg-Titlis - Welcome to Heaven
At 3020 metres (10'000 feet) above sea level, the Titlis mountain is the highest excursion and view point - and the only glacier in Central Switzerland, too. The majestic panorama from the revolving cablecar Rotair is a unique experience not to be missed. www.titlis.ch

Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstättersee)
Our paddle steamers run daily between April and October, as well as on Christmas and New Year’s Day. Let them take you to some of the most scenic places on Lake Lucerne or simply enjoy any one of our diverse number of round-trip cruises. www.lakelucerne.ch

Museums

You won't get bored in Lucerne even on a rainy day. There are a lot of things you can do without the need of sunshine. Some of them we listed here:

Swiss Transport Museum
The Swiss Museum of Transport and Communication consists of the Museum of Transport, Switzerland's only IMAX Theatre and large planetarium, the Hans Erni Museum, along with numerous other attractions. TThe Swiss Museum of Transport is the country's most visited museum and a favourite destination for excursions .www.verkehrshaus.ch

The Rosengart Collection
The Collection comprises well over 200 works by 23 different “Classic Modernist” artists. These include 125 works by Paul Klee and some 50 by Pablo Picasso. Other artists represented include (in alphabetical order) Bonnard, Braque, Cézanne, Chagall, Dufy, Kandinsky, Laurens, Léger, Marini, Matisse, Miró, Modigliani, Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, Rouault, Seurat, Signac, Soutine, Utrillo and Vuillard. www.rosengart.ch

The museum of history, Lucerne
A new concept makes history come alive. There are Theatre Tours trough the collection. Professional actors assume various roles and bring to life the world of history. Several times a year we compose new tours for adults, children or families.

Glacier Garden Lucerne
It is Nature’s own monument to its history, with a park and museum. It is also a tourist attraction and an oasis of peace from busy Lucerne life. Glacial potholes of impressive proportions bear witness to the last ice age and to the fact that Lucerne was once covered by glaciers. Fossilised mussels and palm leaves show that some 20 million years earlier Lucerne was a subtropical beach.www.gletschergarten.ch

Landscape and Animal Park Goldau
The Animal Park lies in the middle of a massive boulder-strewn area of Goldau and is home to a variety of wildlife. On 17 hectares of natural wilderness deer, bears, muflons, lynx and birds of prey can be observed close-up. Around 90 native and European species have found a home that meets their requirements in their ample enclosures. The Animal Park can be visited throughout the year. Young and old have lots to see and discover. The animals walking freely between the enormous rock formations, the picnic areas, the guided tours, the exhibitions, the zoo information stands and other attractions encourage people to meet the animals – 365 days a year!. www.tierpark.ch
